Using the Left & Right Functions

The Left & Right functions are very useful for getting the portion of a string that is the left or right number of characters that you specify of a main string. Sometimes you need to get a portion of a string at the beginnig or the end of a string - for example you may need to get the characters that are the left 4 or right 4 of a string. This sample script will show you how to accomplish this.

Select CustomerName, Left(CustomerName, 4) As LeftChars, Right(CustomerName, 4) AS RightChars From tblCustomers Where CustomerName Like '%golf%'
